If you know me, you know that it took every effort to push my pride aside and make this GoFundMe. I have always had a hard time asking for help but things have gotten to the point where I have no other viable option. So here is my story.
August of 2023 I went to get a hysterectomy and was sent home post surgery with a clean bill of health. Thus begins the never ending nightmare. I returned to the emergency room two days later because something was amiss. I was still in terrible pain and my bowel movements were bloody. After a couple of days and a series of tests, it was determined that the doctor had damaged my colon during the hysterectomy. They informed me that I would be needing a colostomy bag for a minimum of 6 months. Keep in mind, this was over Labor Day Weekend so they were a skeleton crew regarding surgeons. I ended up going septic by the time they got to my surgery.
The incision they made to get in there was 8 in from my belly button down. The ostomy itself is on my lower left abdomen. I was in the hospital for about 10 days and the healing process has not gone well. A seroma formed at the incision site and I was required to pack it twice a day for 4 months. Once that finally closed up, I was still dealing with excruciating pain behind the incision and ostomy site. The culprit finally became large enough to determine that I had formed a hernia. It has caused my stomach to be lopsided and it's quite large. But there is hope on the horizon. I am to get a reversal in July. They will take out the hernia as well but they can not do a formal hernia repair at that time as the mesh causes an increased risk of infection. If the hernia comes back, I will have to have another surgery later on down the road to repair it formally.
As you can see, 2023-2024 has not been kind to myself or my family. And the personal medical situation is only the half of it. But I will stay focused here. In February, I was informed by my employer that they would no longer be able to hold my position for me nor can they offer me time off required for my reversal surgery. They explained that I would need to transition to long term disability. I completed the requested paperwork for both my now previous job and the long term disability insurance. Months go by and the insurance agent keeps requesting different things from me to which I provide. Finally, three months later with no income, they deny my claim solely on the basis that there was a two week period in which I was transitioning care providers from the surgeons to my primary care physician. Because there was that two week gap, they denied me. I have tried and am still fighting this.
Thank the heavens I had money in my pension from work for I was able to cash that out and catch up on all of my bills. But now that well is also dry. I have applied for unemployment and was denied because I had the pension money. And yes, I am still trying to reopen my case each week.
So you see, I have exhausted options available to me. I would never turn to this unless it was a last resort. Since my reversal is next month, I have already started applying for jobs in hopes of landing on my feet once I heal. I just need funds to get across the finish line. So I humbly ask for your aid. Even if you can not donate, please share with others for that only costs 10 seconds of your time. And if you have read through this all, I greatly appreciate you. Much Love.
P.S. If you would like to see photographic proof of what was stated above, please message me on social media. I am happy to provide but I must warn you, some images are rather graphic.
