My name is Matthew, and I’m reaching out for help as I navigate a difficult period in my life. Earlier this year, I was forced to stop working due to serious health issues: Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease, Type 1 Diabetes, Diabetic Gastroparesis, and Diabetic Nephropathy. Since January, I’ve had several procedures, many hospital stays, and now rely on a nephrostomy tube to help my kidney heal. The daily reality is exhausting—I struggle to walk around the grocery store, need frequent breaks, and face constant fatigue. Nights are especially tough, with pain and anxiety making sleep nearly impossible, and my medications often leave me feeling nauseous. I’ve always worked hard in a labor-intensive job, and losing that ability has been a huge mental and emotional challenge.
While I wait for a decision on Social Security Disability—a process that could take 14-16 months or even longer if I need to appeal—I’m doing my best to cover basic needs like rent, utilities, and food. My mother and stepfather, Stephanie and Ty, my father Jim, and my girlfriend’s parents have all stepped in to help, and I’m deeply grateful for their support. However, I don’t want to be a burden to them or ask for more than they can give. That’s why I’m turning to my community for help during this uncertain time.
Any support will go directly toward keeping me afloat while I wait for disability benefits. Your kindness will help me focus on healing and managing my health, and I appreciate every bit of help more than words can say.
