We at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air are grieving the loss of our dear friend and coworker, Matt Thomason, who passed away suddenly on July 12th, leaving behind his wife, Kate, and his two sons Leo and Bennett.
Matt spent 19 years at AAG and was so proud to be with the Company. Matt always went above and beyond to protect the Company and our guests.
Matt's leadership was front and center as he led the Company through the COVID-19 pandemic. His ability to work with the Infectious Disease experts and provide sound advice to the response team was instrumental in protecting our employees and allowed for safe continued operations in an extremely unique environment. Matt’s clear and decisive guidance during that difficult time made us all better.
But more than his work, Matt was a dedicated husband and father and was always proud of this role above all others. Matt spent so much time over the past year sitting by Kate's side as she battled cancer, while lending endless support to his sons. He was truly a family man at heart.
This unexpected loss has left their family devastated, and in the midst of this grief, there are unexpected financial burdens—funeral costs, day-to-day living expenses and most importantly, support for the boys continued education. Let's help ease the weight of the loss Matt's family is going through.
Matt's network of friends throughout the company is vast. He would do anything for anyone, and now we can help his family the same way he would have helped any of ours.
