Please help at least one family from being homeless.
Six months ago Mary collapsed from an undiagnosed medical condition. Since that time, she has been unable to work and has been going through our social system trying to get help, both medically and financially.
Mary is a single mom of a beautiful 12 year old daughter, Rachel, who has special needs and whose father abandoned her and has never been seen since pregnancy. Mary has no family (both parents have passed) other than a brother who lives quite far.
Mary has since been diagnosed with several medical and mental health conditions and has been recommended to go on disability. That process, however, can take many months and sometimes years. She has been able to get by until recently, despite having no income.
Her utilities are getting turned off and they are about to be evicted. Mary is afraid if she has to leave Lee's Summit that all the help her and her daughter were receiving will end and they will have to start over somewhere else. Her car has no AC and is having problems. She doesn't know whether to enroll her daughter in school because they might be homeless in a few weeks.
I met Mary when we worked at the same company. She is a very hard worker and I always appreciated her strong spirit. Over the years she became like a sister to me. When I had personal tragedies she was always the first person there for me. I never imagined I would see her in such a destitute situation and I'm sure she never imagined it either.
I am asking for people to band together and help alleviate the increasing stress and worry she is shouldering by herself. Please be a part of lessening the unimaginable burden that comes with being a single parent with health issues who is unable to get financial and medical help in a reasonable amount of time.
If we can raise enough money to help pay for utilities and rent for even a short time, and possibly fix car issues, it would make all the difference in the world to Mary and Rachel.
