Support for Martin Young’s Memorial

Hello. My name is David Young.

Please forgive me if the following is fragmented or not well thought out.

I am coming to you on behalf of my family to ask for help with the laying to rest and memorialization of my father, Martin Young. For those of you who do not know us, my family has been involved in multiple facets of community and faith for as long as I can remember. Not only did my father serve his country, but my father and mother were often called on to provide assistance to people in the community, leveraging their expertise in areas such as automotive repair, residential electricity, plumbing, and carpentry to make someone's life easier and safer one step at a time.

My father passed away on December 9th, 2025, after a courageous battle against Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Most are not aware that he actually beat the leukemia after the first round of chemotherapy. It wasn't until his last maintenance round of chemo and thoracentesis that it was discovered and subsequently confirmed that there was a secondary and unknown infection. It was ultimately the secondary infection (which has still yet to be identified) that took him from us.

He leaves behind a legacy of selfless service and giving, my mother Samantha Young, my sister Amanda Barnes, her son Steven Barnes, my children Isaiah, Hannah, Amayah, and Elijah Young, and their mother Stephanie.

Dad always tried to have plans in place or at least mostly in place should the unthinkable happen. If there was no preplan or forethought, he and Mom would always come up with a way to make it happen. Although, in this instance, none of us could have conceived that he wouldn't walk out of the hospital after he walked into it for this infection. He had beaten a blood cancer that has an 18% survivability for people his age...

We are struggling to come up with the funds to transport and memorialize him, having no estate or savings left after he lost his employment in August of this year, and his subsequent diagnosis in late August/early September. Every dime went to medical bills, transportation, and insurance.

Our goal is $5,000. This will cover the $2270.00 for the services, $230 for his memorial, and if reached, the remaining $2500.00 will go entirely towards helping mom with her needs. While the final total is much, much more... the immediate need is $2500-5000.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Any prayers, thoughts, and love are also appreciated. We are still working on timeframes, and will update everyone as soon as we have set everything.

If you have and questions in regards to anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to me!
