My name is Philathea, and I am reaching out during the most difficult time of my life. My beloved son, Marshawn Jeremiah Bailey, was born on February 13th, 2007, and would be turning 19 this year.
Marshawn was my eldest child of seven and the best big brother anyone could ask for. He worked at the chicken plant in Pine Mountain, Georgia, to help provide for his siblings and friends. Marshawn stepped up when his father abandoned him and his siblings, becoming the man of the house at just 10 years old. He was our protector—a true leader, well-mannered, respectful, and incredibly intelligent. Marshawn was truly loved by everyone who knew him, always willing to help others and put his family first.
Tragically, Marshawn was shot and killed by gun violence on Tuesday morning. This loss comes just months after losing my mother in November, and my heart is broken. His siblings and I are extremely confused and hurt to the core. Marshawn was our everything—a true leader, the first of many, and he will truly and forever be missed, but most of all, loved. As I take time off work to grieve and care for my other children, I am struggling to cover funeral expenses and support my family. There is no way I can return to work right away, and the financial burden is overwhelming.
I am asking for your support, prayers, and kindness during this unimaginable time. Any help you can offer will go directly toward Marshawn’s funeral expenses and helping my family manage bills and daily needs as we grieve. Thank you to everyone who reads our story—we greatly appreciate you all.
