Many of you may not know the health journey my father has been on the past couple of years, but we have come to a huge hurdle as far as his health and ongoing recovery.

On 12/31/2023, my father suffered a retinal stroke and lost almost all the vision in his left eye. He spent several days in the stroke ward at WakeMed and was discharged with little explanation as to what had caused this. He has been vigilant about his health and taking better care of himself for the past few years and has lost over 200 lbs and completely changed his lifestyle. He had a medical device placed in his chest to shock his heart back into a life-sustaining rhythm just in case something was to happen in July of '24 when he was diagnosed with V-Fib (a serious heart condition). He recovered from his surgery and continued on his path of healthy living.

This past July, he collapsed in his backyard while mowing his yard and was shocked back to life. His recovery over the past month has been tremendously difficult, and regaining his stamina and energy has been challenging. Somehow, he has kept working through all of this and kept his spirits up as much as he can.

On Friday morning, 8/29/25, my father woke up and lost the vision in his right eye and is now legally blind. He is still at Duke and has been in and out of their hyperbaric chamber 3 times this weekend. They have run countless tests and labs but have no idea what is going on or a true root cause as to why he lost his vision one eye at a time.

Up until this point, we thought we could handle this as a family, but we are desperately asking for any support you can offer to this incredibly difficult situation. He can no longer work or drive and is still trying to recover from such a big cardiac event. We all know bills keep coming in, and life doesn't slow down. We are trying to find all services available and figure this thing out, but this is an uphill battle at the moment. The number seems astronomical, but with some love and support, I know we can scratch the surface and help my father on his journey upward.
