Hi everyone, my name is Stephanie Schillero and I started this fundraiser to raise donations, emotional support, and prayers for my aunt Maritza Guerra and her family. Maritza is the long-time director of St. John’s Lutheran ECEC, active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alexandria, a loving mother to three daughters, a wonderful wife, and a humble and devout servant of the Lord. Maritza has been battling COVID-19 and COVID-related complications since Thanksgiving 2020 and was recently placed on a ventilator. Maritza has a wonderful support system, but a lengthy hospital stay inevitably means medical bills and some loss of wages. So let’s help support her and her family any way we can!
A Timeline of Maritza’s Progress
Due to being high-risk of COVID-19 infection, Maritza had been taking every precaution possible to limit potential exposures. However Maritza was exposed shortly before Thanksgiving and then tested positive for COVID-19 a few days later.
On December 5th, Maritza went to the hospital due to her COVID symptoms and stayed until December 14th. She was sent home with oxygen to help with her breathing, and she seemed to be improving.
On December 22nd, Maritza went back to the ER because her oxygen levels were dropping and she was having a hard time breathing even with the oxygen. After a day or so in the ER, the hospital admitted her and she has been there since. She has been monitored and seemed to have been slowly improving.
On January 15th, Maritza was placed on a ventilator. She has been slowly improving while on the ventilator, using slightly less oxygen each day, but she has not yet reached the level of oxygen use needed to be removed from the machine. We are praying that day will come soon!
How Can You Help?
While monetary donations are certainly helpful, I am also hoping people will leave her messages of love and support (whether it be on this page or elsewhere) so that she may be able to read them all when she wakes up! And for anyone who prays, please continue to keep Maritza and her family in your prayers.
The goal is to raise $15,000 to help pay medical bills, loss of wages, and anything else the Guerra family may need. I know these are difficult times for us all, and really any size donation will help! We would also greatly appreciate help in spreading the word and sharing the fundraiser.
