Support Maria’s Fight Against Ovarian Cancer
As some of you may know, at just 29 years old, Maria received devastating news that no one expects: she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. What started as routine symptoms led to a diagnosis of stage 3 low-grade serous carcinoma—a rare form of ovarian cancer that requires extensive treatment.
Her Journey So Far
Maria has already undergone major surgery, including a total hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries. While the surgery was successful, her cancer was found to have spread beyond the ovaries, making additional treatment necessary to give her the best chance at a full recovery.
The Road Ahead
Her treatment plan includes months of chemotherapy and hormone-blocking therapy, along with regular monitoring and follow-up care. As a young woman now in surgical menopause, she will also need ongoing supportive care to manage the long-term effects of her treatment. Chemotherapy is scheduled to start March 18th at the University of Cincinnati Barrett Cancer Center. Treatment will be a physically, mentally, and financially challenging process for Maria and her family. However, just like Maria’s perseverance through all obstacles (including a self-inflicted ultra marathon!), we are optimistic that she can tackle this one with that same courage and toughness as well.
How Your Support Helps
We know that Maria has so many loved ones that want to support her, so we want to channel this positive energy and support her in the most productive way possible! The costs of cancer treatment extend far beyond medical bills. Your generous donation will help cover:
- Chemotherapy and medication costs
- Hormonal therapy and supportive medications
- Cold capping therapy to help preserve her hair during chemotherapy, and possibly a wig, which is generally not covered by insurance
- Complementary therapies - to support chemotherapy, such as acupuncture and functional medicine (and the costs that go along with these)
- High cost of care - Maria is close to hitting her high deductible, but we anticipate some things still won’t be covered as part of her care. Bills usually come well into the future, and we’d like to provide her with a cushion for if/when this happen
- Bone health monitoring and supplements
- Mental health and wellness support
Why We're Reaching Out
No one should have to face cancer alone—or worry about how to pay for life-saving treatment. Maria's family wants nothing more than to support her through this journey, but they are already stretched thin as her father battles leukemia. With two family members fighting cancer simultaneously, the emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming.
Maria has always been there for others, and now she needs our community to rally around her during this incredibly difficult time for her entire family.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings her one step closer to beating this disease. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page with your network. Your support means the world.
Thank you for helping Maria focus on what matters most: healing.
