On August 19th, 17-year-old Mardenia Meliza Carrillo Lopez was hit by a car while crossing the street and tragically lost her life. Her mother was also hit by the car and is in the hospital receiving care.

Originally from Guatemala and a recent resident of Oakland, Mardenia was a beloved daughter, sister, classmate and community member. Her family is reeling in this sudden loss and is raising money for financial support to cover funeral costs, family medical expenses, the costs of transporting her body for burial in Guatemala, and covering basic expenses during their period of grief and recovery.
