Support for Mama Mary Greer Mudiku

Hi, my name is Masavia Greer, son of Mary E. Greer Mudiku. I'm writing on behalf of my mom, who, as a single woman, raised me and my older brother. My mother has always been a strong and proud person. She worked as a visual and performance artist and poet and was pivotal in the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s and Black liberation struggles. Mary attended Howard University in the 1970s and while living in Washington, DC, she created designs, including logos, book covers, paintings, wearable art, etc. for many organizations and individuals. Mary worked as an Art Therapist in the prison system reforming incarcerated women and men from 1988-2001 when she had to retire early to help her mother Rose who was at the time diagnosed with dementia. My mother was never able to collect her pension and when she tried to get her pension after many attempts she was denied. Mary left DC and her career behind to take care of her mother, Rose, until Rose passed away in March 2007. In 2005 the house was going to go into foreclosure, so in order to save the house Mom had to use all her resources.

A recent and present health crisis occurred in March 2023, and last year we thought we lost Mom, but by the grace of God she pulled through with lingering complications and medications to take. She is no longer active as she was.

At 82 years old, Mary still does her art and fights against inequality. Right now she resides at her house in Memphis, TN, but is back in the position to potentially lose it because of limited finances and the inability to make needed repairs. Unfortunately, I can no longer afford to help renovate the house or help financially, and she is now surviving solely on her social security. I'm very worried about her health and quality of life and I'm asking for your help. We are requesting an amount that we hope will help her with ongoing medical care and other immediate expenses. Whatever you can do to assist is extremely appreciated.
