Make it with Main Fabric

Is there anything better than finding an item of clothing that fits exactly the way you want it to? One that you feel comfortable and confident in – something you know you’ll have and wear for a long time? It’s kind of a big deal, right? Something hard to achieve with off-the-rack sizing?

Nakita and I are neighbours who have become fast friends through (among other things) a passion for making garments we love to wear. Neither of us is a formally trained seamstress; we are both self-taught sewers. Removing the intimidation factor in sewing and making it approachable for anyone to try is something that is really important to us. We will build a collaborative space where people can learn how to sew, make, and mend their own garments. And so, we are thrilled to be opening Main Fabric, a retail and workshop space, in Spring 2023. We’ll be selling beautifully curated fabric and notions (buttons, zippers, thread, tools, etc.) and will also be running sewing classes and workshops with a focus on garment-making. We’ll have sewing machines set up in store for people to use on a membership and/or hourly basis. We promise that if this is something you want to try, you won’t regret it. We’ll be there to help you make something you love.

In the future, we hope to host other community-oriented types of workshops in an effort to support more folks in our area (we’re thinking anything from resumé-building to lactation consulting. All with supporting families and teaching/learning at the core of what we do).
