On Christmas Eve, Uma and Kenny rushed their sweet six-month-old son, Maika, to their local hospital after he suddenly spiked a terrifying 105 fever. The hospital performed swabs and a chest X-ray, but no bloodwork was done, and while they acknowledged he was sick, they did not feel it was serious enough to admit him or refer him to a specialist. Uma and Kenny left uneasy, trusting the God-given instincts that told them something still wasn’t right. Still deeply concerned, they drove Maika an hour away to a pediatric specialty hospital. The team there took his condition more seriously and expressed concern — but even then, he was discharged with instructions to return if things worsened. That night, Maika did not sleep at all. By morning, the entire left side of his face was severely swollen. Uma and Kenny raced him back to the pediatric ER, praying the whole way and trusting God to cover their little boy. This time, doctors discovered the truth: Maika was battling MRSA in his throat and bloodstream. He required emergency surgery and now needs intensive medical care and ongoing treatment. It was made clear that had Uma and Kenny not continued pushing for answers, the outcome could have been devastating. We thank God for guiding their steps, for protecting Maika, and for the wisdom He gave them to keep fighting for their son. Today, Maika is in the hands of an incredible medical team with the knowledge, resources, and compassion needed to care for something this serious. God has truly placed the right people around him. Uma and Kenny are deeply grateful for the doctors, nurses, and specialists who are working tirelessly, and they are holding on to faith, believing God is not finished and that healing is coming.
Since then, Uma and Kenny have spent every possible moment by Maika’s side. They only step away briefly to rest and regain strength so they can continue to care for him. They have been scared, exhausted, prayerful, and unwavering in their love and faith through this storm. Uma does not work; she is a full-time cosmetology student, but school will now have to be put on hold so she can care for Maika during his recovery. Kenny normally works, but he has been unable to work during this time so he can remain with Uma and Maika, help make medical decisions, and be fully present for their son. This means lost income and added financial strain on top of medical expenses, transportation back and forth to the hospital an hour away, meals, and continued care needs.
This page was created to help ease the financial burden so the family can focus entirely on what matters most: being present for their baby and supporting one another during this time. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly toward temporary lodging near the hospital, medical expenses and related care, and daily living and travel costs while away from home. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page or keeping the family in your prayers and thoughts is equally appreciated. We believe in the power of prayer and believe God is holding Maika in His hands. Thank you for lifting up Uma, Kenny, and sweet Maika and praying for complete healing, strength, wisdom for his doctors, and peace for their hearts. God is faithful, and this family is believing for a full recovery.
