UPDATE!!
Sydney and her mom are still in Albuquerque at UNM hospital. Her friend who also got emergency flown, made a full recovery and was discharged. Sydney unfortunately was not as lucky as the other girls. She has a very very long road in front of her for recovery. We do not have all answers on the extent of damage that she will face, that also will come with time. We do know in the future Sydney will need a couple of surgeries to help her maintain a semi normal life. Maggie and her will remain at the hospital until further notice. They still need all the help you can give. Whether it be donating or prayer or both we appreciate anything and everything. Thank you, and God Bless.
Hello everyone. My name is Katie. In the early morning of June 23, my 16 year old niece Sydney and her two friends were involved in a horrible rollover car accident. My niece and one of the other occupants were emergency air lifted to UNM in Albuquerque due to life threatening brain injuries, fractures and other injuries. My sister, Maggie, drove down to Albuquerque to meet her and to be by her side and is currently still there. They may be there for a week or a few weeks. At this point we do not know how long my niece will be in the hospital.
Maggie is the sole provider for her 4 children and was barely making ends meet working two jobs before this horrific tragedy. She just graduated from nursing school and is now working as a Registered nurse with dialysis patients she is also continuing to work at San Juan Regional Medical Center as a surgical tech in the OR. She has been at the hospital for the past 15 years. She worked full time while getting her degree in nursing. She is compassionate, caring loving, an all around beautiful soul. She has helped many people.
Right now her family needs help and Constant prayers. God can do amazing things.
Maggie will stay by her daughter’s side in the hospital as much as she can, but so she also must still work. Maggie will need to commute two and a half hours back and forth from Albuquerque to Farmington. Maggie also has three other children that will need love, support and attention. My mom and I will be helping with kids while my sister works or taking turns being at UNM to make sure someone will always be by Sydney’s side.
Both girls are stable as of now, but will have a long stay at the hospital and a long road of recovery. I am asking anyone who can donate to help out my sister in this time. My sister has probably helped you or someone you might know or love in this community of ours. Now she needs our help! I know it’s hard times for everyone but Anything helps.
Love your loved ones thank you and God Bless.
