Support for lynched Captain Mahama

Donation protected

On Monday 29th May 2017, the world witnessed on social media a young Captain  (posthumously promoted to Major) in the Ghana Armed Forces being lynched to death by a group of people his unit was deployed to serve.

The pictures and videos on Facebook were not only appalling but gruesome and heartbreaking. Imagine a young high ranking army officer who was deployed to a town in Ghana being stoned to death. Imagine a young captain who left his two kids and a wife at home, lying helplessly on the ground as a group of people continued to stone him in the name of a “mistaken identity”. Imagine the despicable image of Major Mahama finally giving his last breath as the fire begins to burn his body. You can imagine the grief-stricken family watching the pictures/videos of their beloved father/husband on social media as he was being lynched.

Many words have been used to describe Major Mahama. He was very respectful, a true gentleman with a vivacious personality.

Major Mahama has left behind 2 beautiful children and a wife.

We the friends/distant friends/ non-relations/Patriotic Ghanaians/ mere sympathizers would like to mourn with the bereaved family especially the wife and kids who have no one to call again “father” or “daddy".

Many were left wondering if I knew the deceased and beneficiaries. No l never them at the time of this unfortunate event. But as a father of young children and moved by compassion for humanity, l reached out to the widow, Barbara Mahama after I had spontaneously set up a fund raising campaign to support the late Officer's wife and kids.

I rang once a day to check on her and the lovely boys. Today l call her sister and  "the widow with the biggest heart" because eventhough she is so devastated she has kept her head up.  As a Ghanaian and one who visits Ghana once every year, l plan to see the family anytime l am in Ghana.

The plan to present proceeds of this campaign to the family is very simple. Barbara has set up a fidelity bank account in Ghana where all donations  should be transferred. Immediately, l have closed down this campaign, l will transfer every penny of the funds into designated account set up by the widow.  In addition to  this campaign, l am also running a local campaign where anybody domiciled in Ghana can donate. A lot of people have donated into the same fidelity bank account.

If this tragedy has touched you, please click on the link and donate. Donations will go a long way to support Barbara (the widow) and the two children.

News conference was held on national television by the late Major Mahama's family exonerating this campaign of claims of fraudulent fund raising appeals circulated by unknown individuals cleared my name as one of two legitimate campaign organisers authorised and approved by family. See link below.

Barbara  Mahama  (widow) has also sent a letter  of authorization  to Go fund  attesting  to the credibility  of this campaign a one that has the full backing of the late Major Mahama's family.

As we approach the end of this campaign, our collective thoughts and prayers are with Barbara,  the children and the entire family in this difficult time.

Many thanks for your generosity.
