Support for Lyle Covey During His Cancer Battle
Don protégé
Hi, my name is Kimberly Covey, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my dad, Lyle Covey, who is currently facing the biggest challenge of his life — a recent cancer diagnosis that has turned our world upside down.
Back in March, my dad had eight teeth removed in preparation for dentures. What should have been a fairly routine recovery took a difficult turn. He spent over six weeks unable to eat solid food, relying on a liquid and pureed diet due to pain and complications. When he finally began trying solid foods again, he experienced intense pain in his esophagus.
Over the next four weeks, that pain persisted. Despite weekly visits and tests through his family doctor — all of which initially came back normal — he continued to lose weight, dropping nearly 40 pounds.
Then, on Thursday, June 5th, everything changed. My dad came home and told me something wasn’t right. I took him to the hospital, where we spent over 10 hours undergoing urgent tests. The results were devastating:
A 4-inch tumor was found in his esophagus
Cancer had already spread to his stomach, spleen, and pancreas
A blood clot was also discovered
As of June 19th, my dad has been admitted to Foothills Hospital. He is currently being given nutrients through an IV and feeding tube. He will remain hospitalized for at least the next 10 days as further tests are done to determine the stage of cancer and to finalize a treatment plan.
Lyle has officially been taken off work as of June 17th, and the emotional and financial toll this is taking on him — and on our entire family — is immense.
Our Goal
We are looking to raise $15,000 to help cover:
Household and personal expenses while he’s unable to work
Travel and parking costs for hospital visits
Any additional medical supplies, nutritional needs, or out-of-pocket expenses that come up along the way
A Great Dad, Papa, and Friend
Anyone who knows my dad knows what an incredible, kind, and selfless man he is. He’s not only been an amazing father to his daughters, but a loving Papa to his grandkids and a loyal, generous friend to so many. His strength, sense of humor, and warm heart have touched the lives of everyone around him.
This situation has come on so quickly and unexpectedly. We are doing our best to stay strong and support him the way he has always supported us.
If you are able to help — whether it's through a donation, a share, or kind words — we would be deeply grateful. Every bit helps ease the burden and allows my dad to focus on what matters most: healing and fighting.
From the bottom of my heart,
Thank you.
