Hi, everyone.

I'm Jeanette, one of Luna's moms. Luna was the sweetest and most loving cats I've ever known and had the pleasure of loving. She was gentle and funny, would always remind me when it was time for bed, and would purr up a storm at any given moment. She was a stalwart companion through a couple of difficult transitions for me, and an even longer member of the Landers family, who brought her home for the first time all the way back in 2014.

On 9/19, I brought Luna to her vet because she was rapidly losing weight. She was diagnosed with feline diabetes, and we were told that she had a good chance of recovery if she started insulin therapy the next Monday.

That Sunday the 21st, she began refusing all food, started hiding under the bed, and was incredibly lethargic. She was no longer my funny, playful girl, so I brought her to the veterinary ER at Ohio State University. They diagnosed her with diabetic ketoacidosis and admitted her that night. An ultrasound the next day showed extensive organ inflammation, and further labs showed a systemic bacterial infection and the beginnings of widespread organ failure. In just three days, I went from expecting to take my sweet girl home and help her manage an otherwise manageable condition to having to make the decision to say goodbye.

On Monday 22 September, I held Luna in my arms for the last time while she went to sleep. It was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, made harder by the thousands of dollars of veterinary hospital bills we accumulated in two days.

After much thought and consideration, I've decided to make a GoFundMe to help cover some of those veterinary hospital bills so that I and Luna's other mom Paige can have some help and support after this loss.
