Hi everyone, my name is Leonel Lauro Lopez son of Luis Lauro Lopez (AKA Larry).
Last Wednesday on January 7th, My Dad passed away unexpectedly in his home. While he was not in the best of health, his passing this suddenly was not predicted or prepared for. I had only just seen him that previous Monday morning. On last Wednesday, a wellness check was made where he was found in his home in Woodhaven, Queens.
I am currently planning a memorial service in NYC and funeral & burial services in Roma/Salineno. This include a Memorial service at NF Walker of Queens Funeral Home in Woodhaven, Queens. The retrieval, preparation, and transportation of his body from NYC to Roma, Texas. The viewing service in at Sanchez Memorial Funeral Home in Roma, Texas. And the burial in Salineno, Texas.
I trying to raise $8,000 to help cover the expenses related to my fathers death and closing out of his affairs. Unfortunately, my dad did not have any savings or much cash to leave behind so the funeral and related cost will fall onto me. Below is a list of what I foresee as expenses in the coming weeks. Any assistance will be helpful and deeply appreciated.
- Memorial Service in NYC
- Processing and transportation of his body to Roma, TX
- Funeral and burial service in Texas
- Airline tickets and rental car expenses
- Tombstone
- Removing his belongings from his home and storage unit

About Luis Lauro Lopez
Luis Lauro Lopez was born to Melva Lopez on January 21st, 1958 in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. He was raised in Roma, Texas a border town close enough that he could be sent on foot to Mexico as a child to purchase groceries. He spent many of weekends of his younger years working with his grandfather Valeriano on the family ranch. He would spend young adulthood finding work across Texas and even some early summers in Chicago. In his 30's he moved to NYC, where he would proudly remain for the rest of his days. In NYC he would go on to raise a son, Leonel Lopez, and pursue a career in the food service industry as a cook. He worked in places all across NYC from small business restaurants to corporate cafeterias, casinos, and fine dining events. In his later years, he worked events at the Barclays Center where he was a proud union member with UNITE HERE Local 100. He also spent his later years as an avid election poll worker not missing a single election for the last decade. Everywhere he went he would bring with him a joyous and joking mood with a kind heart. He often made friends fast and would be known by most before long. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in his home in Woodhaven, Queens on January 7th, 2026.
