My name is Casey Voit, and I’m trying to raise funds for my orange and white tabby cat boy named Lucky Bean to take him to the vet, and decide the best outcome for his life.
His Story:
I got him when he was only 2 weeks old, he was born in the countryside of Western NY, and I rescued him from my aunt’s house. His mother was a first time mom and not properly caring for all her kittens, so I originally took one of his sickly siblings in hopes of helping them. They unfortunately passed so I rescued him next, and now here we are with him almost 9 years later. He has 6 toes on all of his paws (a polydactyl) and has quite the grumpy face as well as the most unpredictable personality due to being raised without a sibling around him.
About 2 years ago, Lucky Bean had suddenly started getting sick; he was vomiting, having consistent diarrhea, having accidents, fatigued and losing weight at an unhealthy rate. After some vet visits because of worries of blockages or possible cancer, we began changing his diet and ran tests, ultrasounds and bloodwork. We discovered he had, and will continue to have, chronic pancreatitis.
He will be sick with this condition for the rest of his life, however with the medications he needs, it can be managed for the most part. The problem lies in the future and how his one medication for his pancreatitis can result in diabetes due to prolonged use. This would then require more care, as well as insulin and devices to measure blood sugar, which can be managed as well.
My Story:
I’m an almost 26 year old woman who has been looking for a full time job to no avail. I currently work a part time position that pays weekly, but I have to pay bills and debt, and can’t afford sudden visits to the vet. I’m trying to learn how to drive and get my permit so I can eventually move out of my current living situation. I have 4 cats, one of them being Lucky Bean.
My Goal:
I wanted to start this GoFundMe to help me not only get Lucky Bean to the vet, but also because the vet can help me decide what to continue to do for him. He has been sickly for some time, he has a long period of good moments before having a bad moment that offsets those good moments in his pancreatitis. When we had finally gotten him to a healthy weight again, he got sick once more and now is back to being around potentially less than 7 lbs. Now, we are running out of medication and the only way we can get it refilled is with a vet appointment. He has been suffering for so long, yet I also don’t want to give up on him. However, he has been getting a bit anxious from being ill, and he has been slowly growing aggressive towards my other cats. This was the sign to try to get him into the vet for a full opinion.
When I have him taken to the vet, we will decide his list of pros and cons. If his outcome has more pros, I’ll have the GoFundMe money to continue to take him to the vet and also to continue to get him his medications. However, if his outcome has more cons, then I’ll have no choice but to let him go. The GoFundMe money would then be used to take care of his vet visit, his euthanasia, his cremation and more.
I want to have his goal set at 1,000, this way I can cover all his vet needs and if it potentially comes to the option of euthanasia, then I’ll be able to cover the costs of not only the vet, but also his euthanasia and his cremation as well as anything else that will be needed. I’ve been torn between this decision for some time, and decided my only option now was to consult a vet and gain a professional opinion. I never want to feel like I’ve given up on him, because he deserves the best of the best.
I hope my story has not only encouraged others to help, but also encouraged others to want to create a GoFundMe to get the help they need as well. I know how difficult it is to seek help for things like this, but this was my last resort in order to keep my cat healthy and alive.
Keeping Everyone Updated:
I plan to keep everyone who has donated up to date on his health. You all would deserve to know his situation since you would be helping me get him to the vet for the proper care he needs. You’d know if there’s any recent changes in his health (like if he gained diabetes from his meds or if he developed another sickness), any tests done, any new medications he’s on, and all the vet visits he’d be going to. I love him, and I know others can love him and his story too. Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and to those who donate: Thank you for giving me an option and hope for keeping him around. It truly means a lot.
Update: I decided to turn the goal from 3,000 to 1,000. This is because I have a feeling we will eventually have to euthanize him, despite the fact I really want to do all I can for him. The 3,000 was to be able to keep getting him medication for a long term solution, but looking at the situation he may not be around for much longer.
