Ashley, Kevin, Liam, and Logan Kari are the kind of family who bring warmth and generosity to everyone around them. I’ve been lucky to call Ashley my best friend for the past ten years, and I can honestly say there is no one more loving or selfless than the Kari family. Now, they are facing a challenge no parent should ever have to endure.
On Friday, January 9th, the Kari family received devastating news: their two-year-old son, Logan, had a large tumor in the cerebrum, the part of the brain responsible for functions such as cognition, sensation, movement, and emotion and memory. This rare cancerous tumor is found in fetal brain cells.
Logan had his first surgery that night to drain fluid build up and relieve pressure on his brain. On Monday, January 12th Logan had his second surgery, where doctors were able to successfully remove the 3 inch x 3 inch x 3 inch tumor. The Kari family anxiously awaits the biopsy results which will confirm the cancer type in the coming weeks. For now, Logan will begin the recovery process. His current recovery plan includes months of recovering from his brain surgery, rehabilitation in the hospital, and proton radiation.
As the Kari family begins this difficult road to recovery, every dollar raised will help them focus on what matters most—being together and supporting Logan. The funds will go directly to the family to cover daily expenses, mounting medical bills, lost income, and the cost of traveling daily from their home in Bartlett to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. With their other son, Liam (6 years old), at home, Ashley and Kevin are doing everything they can to make sure Logan always has one of his parents by his side.
Your support, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference for the Kari family during this incredibly difficult time. Every dollar and every share makes a difference. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser to help us reach as many people as possible. Thank you for standing with the Kari family when they need it most.
