Update from Ziggy’s dog mom 9/4/24…

Dear Wonderful Community-

I’m truly humbled & grateful for your generous donations & your care & interest in little Ziggy.

He is slowly improving. His wounds are healing.
It’s the ups & downs of —today he doesn’t feel so good, tomorrow he acts like he’s all better. Healing isn’t a straight path.

He’s finished his antibiotics but he’s still on Gabapentin for pain & rest. Eating is hit or miss. Trying to figure what he wants!

He’s sleeping a lot which is great EXCEPT at night! He wakes me up intermittently all night probably trying to find a comfortable spot.

We go to the vet tomorrow for a check up. They will probably remove a lot of the stitches except at the junction where all the pieces of him came together. This is the most fragile.

I’m still not letting him do stairs or jumping. His right back leg looks good but he still limps pretty severely.

All in all, he’s a tough little guy & I’m ever hopeful he’s going to recover.

Thank you, thank you.
Update from Ziggy’s dog mom-8/27…

The other dog owner is no longer cooperating and helping with Ziggy's care, unfortunately.

The doctor removed Ziggy’s drains, removed the tape over his stitches, cleaned up the skin and wound areas. Got a stronger round of Antibiotics and a new Fentanyl patch.

There’s the one area of skin that has lost some blood flow that we’ll be watching. If it dies off it’s an outpatient surgery.

Ziggy will need regular visits a couple times a week for the next few weeks. This will be approx $500 per visit.

His entire chest and belly, back leg were ripped open so all the skin is delicate and stitched. Until it heals, it’s going to need wound care.

Praying that the stitches hold and there’s no infection. That means another surgery which is a large cost. Please continue to pray for him ❤️‍

Update Friday 8/23/24
from Ziggy’s dog mom:

I just spoke to the hospital doctor about Ziggy.

They still need him another 24 hrs. They're going to do X-rays today to see if his chest is clear of fluids before removing the chest tube.

They are concerned about the skin at one area where he's sutured. Not sure yet if it won't require surgery as I mentioned before. We will know more at the end of day.

He ate some food today

We are starting this fundraiser for a friend and co-worker. She is a local hair stylist here in Pacifica. Yesterday, she went through a tragic event.

Many of you may have heard about the woman whose dog, Ziggy, was attacked. During the attack, her other dog, Romeo, ran off scared. Unfortunately, they were notified a little while later that Romeo had been hit by a car and was killed.

Ziggy is in pretty bad shape. He made it through surgery and will be staying in the hospital for a while. He suffered a punctured chest cavity and a punctured lung. In about a week, they will find out if he needs another surgery to remove his lung.

While trying to protect her dogs, the owner’s hand was badly injured. Between taking care of Ziggy and giving her hand some time to heal, she is unable to work. The other dog owner is cooperating and helping with medical bills, however this doesn’t cover the time that she needs to be off work.

We appreciate any help from our community.

Thank you ❤️
