J. arrived in the US after having to leave his family and experiencing a grueling journey to escape a dangerous situation in his home country of Dominican Republic. He was looking forward to the opportunity to live in a safe place and make a living while awaiting his asylum hearing.
Unfortunately, J's housemate was detained during recent immigration raids, held in detention, and forcibly returned to the DR. This has greatly impacted J, adding more trauma to an already stressful transition.
Since this incident, J's work has been inconsistent owing to a combination of ongoing fears and uncertainty as immigration raids continue to be a concern due to his status. J. is actively doing what he can to create opportunities for himself and make his own way; however, he's having trouble making enough to cover his rent each month and having money for food and essentials.
Financial support during this time of ongoing uncertainty and transitions would be of great help for J. as he continues to move towards some sense of stability, especially with upcoming need for legal fees for advice and representation.
