My wife is a nurse who works at two of our local hospitals. Last Friday, while she was finally taking some time for herself, she started to feel chest discomfort. That evening, she went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with Covid, even though she didn’t have the usual symptoms. Over the next couple of days, things seemed normal, but her symptoms kept coming back and getting worse. Two days after her first hospital visit, the pain became unbearable, so she decided to get a second opinion at a different hospital. There, doctors ran more tests and discovered she was having a life-threatening emergency that required immediate surgery. She was quickly transported to a larger hospital for open heart surgery. After a successful six-hour operation, she is now recovering. During the surgery, doctors found something even more rare than they expected: inflammation around her entire aorta, not a tear as they first thought. This rare condition has left doctors searching for answers, and her recovery will take time. We are grateful for the care she received, but the road ahead is uncertain.
