Support for Lisa's Living Kidney Donation Recovery

My name is Meaghan, and I am creating this fundraiser for my beautiful friend Lisa, who will act as a living kidney donor for her father on February 14, 2025. Lisa's father, Chris Mowrey, has diabetes, and his kidneys slowly began to fail him, leading to his current treatment plan: dialysis every other day for four hours at a time while he awaits his transplant.

While the recipient's insurance covers much of the costs associated with living organ donation, not everything is covered, and the added expenses pile up quickly. Lisa is currently out over $1,000 for the cost of tests and screenings, travel for appointments, and other living and medical expenses to determine her eligibility to donate- all of this several months before the donation occurs!

Living in Michigan comes without the protection and support that many states offer for organ donors. Lisa also used all her sick days from work before the donation, and she has already begun to utilize unpaid sick leave for appointments. The entire donation recovery will be unpaid.

Lisa is doing such a wonderful thing for her father, but to ask her, the donation was a no-brainer: without a living donor, there was an estimated 4-6 years before Chris received a donor kidney, a period that doctors do not think he would survive.

The funds raised will support the recovery of Lisa's living kidney donation. Funds will be used for:
