On February 10th, the Copelands received devastating news. Lindy, 33, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Lindy gave birth just shy of a year prior, and her health has progressively declined. Months after baby Everett was born, Lindy was experiencing severe migraines, nausea, memory loss, and a myriad of other symptoms – including personality changes. She’d been misdiagnosed by 4 different doctors who repeatedly labeled her disturbing irregularities as: “postpartum,” "long COVID," and “thyroid related.”

Lindy’s headaches became increasingly more severe, and after Lindy began exhibiting stroke-like symptoms, she was rushed to the emergency room by her husband. The hospital again discharged Lindy with migraine medicine. Exasperated, her husband demanded a CT scan, which revealed a sizable brain tumor over 3” in size on the front right lobe of Lindy’s brain, near both her sinus cavity and her optic nerve.

Lindy is a self-employed photographer and the primary breadwinner for her family. She specializes in weddings and as her symptoms have escalated, they have gradually disrupted her ability to work. It is currently unknown at what point of her healing she will be able to return to work.

It is suspected that the tumor is a benign meningioma, but we will not know the outcome until after excision and pathology. While the surgeon is confident of a positive outcome, there are the potential significant risks to a surgery of this caliber. This type of tumor, while slow growing, it does have the risk of returning at some point. Assuming surgery goes well, Lindy’s full recovery could take up to two years. The healing timeframe and associated risks could increase if the tumor is found to be malignant.

The goal of these funds is to help cover Lindy’s expenses for up to the next two years as she will be recovering from surgery. While the need has been set with this initial estimate, depending on long-term coverage of medical costs and outcomes of the procedure, the request will be adjusted accordingly. Likely the surgery alone will cost upwards of $500,000, not including hospital expenses. The family is hopeful a large part will be covered under their Christian medical sharing plan; however, this has yet to be determined.

Currently, Lindy is scheduled for surgery on Monday, February 21st.

Lindy’s medical diagnosis, treatment, and healing journey is just beginning. With her role being the primary breadwinner, the impact of her not working during the healing process will be highly impactful to her, Sterling, and their son Everett.
