Support Matt's family in their time of loss
Donation protected
We are heartbroken to share that on early Saturday morning, August 23, our dear friend Matt Slawson died unexpectedly, leaving behind his wife Lindsey, his daughter Maelyn, his co-parent and friend Chelsea, brother Morgan and father Phil, and a huge community of beloved friends.
There are no words to describe how much Matt was loved…his death creates a giant hole in the middle of so many lives. This is a massive, devastating loss for so many. His family and close friends are currently working to sort out arrangements to celebrate and remember Matt, his big laugh, his trademark way of making everyone around him feel seen and cared for, and all the many other wonderful things about him. We’ll share more of that information with you soon.
In the meantime, we have the indescribably painful next steps of sorting through how his widow Lindsey and his daughter Maelyn are impacted, and how they might need our help and support. As anyone who’s been through it knows: Alongside the heartbreak of losing Matt, there are also many difficult financial realities to face. The sudden loss of a husband, co-parent, and father brings with it significant and unexpected costs that can quickly become overwhelming.
Thus, we’re starting this GoFundMe to collect the funds necessary to see Lindsey and Maelyn through significant upcoming expenses including funeral costs, health insurance, housing, pets, and all the assorted and unexpected bills and expenses that come along while navigating life after losing someone so significant to your life. Every little bit helps…we know that nothing will ever make up for Matt’s absence, but we’re hoping that this fund will at least allow Lindsey and Maelyn some breathing space to mourn and heal.
All money will be split down the middle: We are hoping to provide Lindsey with immediate, emergency expenses - funeral costs, health insurance, work replacement and bills - and Mae with support expenses that Matt previously took care of (health insurance, schooling costs, and childcare-related expenses).
Costs will likely exceed our goal, so all contributions are dearly appreciated and will be used.
A million deep thanks to all of you in this community for all of the incredible support and love and for reaching out. There are no words to describe the grief and heartbreak we feel, and even this attempt feels undeserving of the enormous loss and consequences of Matt’s death. We love you all, and are so very grateful for every single one of you.
Wishing everyone love and peace,
Jacquie, Emi, Amy, Francis, Erin, Jeff, Christi, Luke, Karah, and Amber
