Support for Lindsay's Recovery

Lindsay went to work like any other workday on Thursday, February 10th. On Friday morning, she had a fever and stayed home. Her in-home Covid test was negative, by mid-day she went to the emergency room with chills and fever. What transpired from there was completely unexpected. Lindsay had developed sepsis, which is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's response to an infection damages its own tissues. She underwent a kidney procedure that evening that went well; however, the next day, she had a very high fever of 108.5, since then has not been responsive.

The last 30 days have been emotional to family and friends as we continue to seek answers as to how this could have happened. Lindsay has now been diagnosed with chronic illness neuropathy and myopathy, a disease of peripheral nerves, occurring as a complication of severe trauma. She will remain in the ICU until the infection is gone and then will be moved to a long-term care facility in either Marin, Oakland or Sacramento to continue recovering. The distance to the long-term facility will be an additional hardship on the family but a necessary sacrifice to ensure Lindsay’s health and recovery. We are not quite sure yet what and how much of her care will be covered through her medical insurance and for how long. So many unknowns.

A little bit about our amazing Lindsay:

Lindsay is a faithful 49er fan, so much that her traditional Catholic wedding was not so traditional as even her dress and her husband’s suit were 49er colors. The entire wedding theme was 49ers! Everyone in her department at work has now pledged to be 49er fans for Lindsay; yes, even those few leftover Raider fans. Lindsay’s parents (Cecilia & Andy), her husband (Adrian) and her dog (Miko) are the center of her universe. (more about family and what she likes to do, like succulents). At work, Lindsay’s quiet demeanor and calming voice is so cherished as she works with a lively group to serve youth with disabilities and at-risk to ensure they meet their education and employment goals. She is a key contributor to the success of the department and the reason why the State calls them “Team Awesome.” Also, Lindsay has a beautiful, creative spirit; she’s our go-to for event decorations, and she always surprises us with her props and decorations. We know she’s a fighter and with time and support will overcome her diagnosis and our Lindsay will be back with us.
