Lindsay Ulrey is adored by her family and friends. Lindsay is a 37 yro loving wife, mother (6&3) and professional (psychologist). In the fall of 2021, her life abruptly changed in just 48 short hours as a random mild lower abdominal pain rapidly progressed to full on paralysis.

 

After weeks of seeking medical help and answers, Lindsay was diagnosed with a rare inflammatory disorder called transverse myelitis (https://wearesrna.org/living-with-myelitis/disease-information/transverse-myelitis/ ). This has caused paralysis in her legs and torso, and now requires the use of a wheelchair to get around.

 

Lindsay is learning how to manage these intense physical changes while navigating the already challenging world of motherhood. She has remained her amazing positive self in spite of it all and is working hard with physical and occupational therapists to learn adaptive skills to get back into her life. Her daily challenges go beyond comprehension (“momma I miss the days when your legs were working”) yet she is handling it with grace and fortitude.

 

In addition to the physical and emotional challenges, it has added significant financial stress including medical costs, adaptive equipment, and caregiver support.

 

Lindsay has been an amazing friend to many and it is our turn to step up to help her family. She is doing her part to stay positive through the daily struggles of getting dressed, parenting, and the simple acts in life. Transportation is one of those basics. Getting around in a normal vehicle is now a real challenge and driving is non-existent. That is about to change.

 

We are going to help her purchase a modified van that will accommodate her powered wheelchair entry, complete with hand controls to allow her to drive. Simply put, this adapted van would be a game changer; it would give Lindsay greater independence again and be a big help for the family.

 

The van we hope to purchase will cost around $75k. Any extra funds would go toward the accessible home they just moved into. Please share her story with others who may want to support. $5, $10, $100 - it all adds up to make a direct difference for a wonderful person and family.
