On November 17th 2020, Linda Rider was admitted into the Abbott Northwestern Hospital for surgery to remove a brain tumor that had grown to roughly the size of a ping pong ball. Upon examination of the tumor it was determined to be Stage Three Brain cancer, meaning radiation and chemotherapy is the next step for treatment.
Anyone who knows Linda knows that she loves her Savior, Jesus, and sharing him with her community and family. The night before her surgery she was in good spirits and said “I have no fear about this surgery. I am in God’s hands no matter what happens and that is a good place to be.”
Her surgery went well, and after a 2.5 weeks of healing and therapy at Abbot & Sister Kenny Rehab, Linda was able to return home to Gibbon on December 5 to rest and continue her recovery. Physically she becomes tired easily, but her balance has improved drastically and she is insistent on taking small walks, which is so good for her! The surgery did affect her short term memory, meaning she has a hard time remembering things that happened from day to day, but her longer term memory (from 6 months and prior) has been strong and she likes to visit about her family. She even has resumed her contagious laugh, bringing much joy to our family.

We are creating this fundraiser to help support Linda and Michael Rider as they navigate the challenges of cancer treatment and reduce some of the stress being placed on them as they travel to Minneapolis for frequent doctor appointments/radiation treatment and to help cover gas, utility bills, and other living expenses. At this time mom requires constant monitoring, and as a result dad, who is self-employed, is unable to return to work on a consistent basis. We are also working to finish up a small retirement apartment for Linda and Mike inside their woodworking shop in Gibbon, which has been a dream of Linda’s for the past 15 years and will provide a safe, level place for her continued healing and recovery close to her children, grandchildren, and Immanuel Lutheran Church family.
We are so thankful for the outpouring of prayers and support our family has received in this time, and continue to thank and praise God for you all!
