Hi everyone,

I’m writing this on behalf of my best friend and her beautiful 3-month-old daughter. If you know her, you know she is one of the strongest, most devoted moms I’ve ever met. Right now, she and her daughter’s father are facing something no parent is ever truly prepared for.

Their sweet baby girl will be having full open-heart surgery this April. Her case is more severe, which makes this surgery even more complex. The cardiac surgeon explained that he typically has two surgeons and will dictate who performs the procedure — but in her case, he has decided that he will personally be doing the surgery himself.

Even with the best care, there are risks. They have been told there is a 10% chance she may need a pacemaker following the first surgery. And this will not be her only operation — she will require a second heart surgery later this year.

They are also unsure how long she will need to be admitted at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. It could be days, it could be weeks. The unknowns feel endless right now.

Because of everything ahead, she will not be able to return to work until both surgeries are complete and her daughter is safely through recovery. Recently, she was forced to voluntarily resign from her job due to circumstances outside of her control. With two major surgeries, extended hospital stays, and recovery time ahead, they are walking into a very long and uncertain road.

If you know this mama, you know she would never ask for help unless she truly needed it. She and her daughter’s father are doing everything they possibly can to stay strong for their baby girl while carrying a weight no parent should have to carry.

We are asking for support to help ease the financial burden during this time — to help with living expenses, time away from work, and the many unexpected costs that come with extended hospital stays and complex open-heart surgeries.

They have a long road ahead of them. But they are not giving up. And they are not losing hope.
