Hi peeps,

Long story, but I had a quick, unexpected opportunity in Portland to make a couple of music videos for my songs Low to the Ground and Got to Love with the wonderful multimedia artist Robert Alexander. I’m hoping to get these out into the world before the election to support some organizations committed to protecting our at-risk Earth and democracy.

Several folks urged me to do this GoFundMe to cover the costs of these two videos and maybe be able to produce a few more later this year (and/or record a handful of my many unrecorded songs). I’ve never asked for money in my entire musical career, so this is a stretch for me. But the changes in the music landscape (streaming services, pandemic impacts on touring, etc.) have made it virtually impossible to recover recording expenses the way I used to. My last recording was underwritten by a fellowship from the Rasmuson Foundation for this reason; 7 years ago, it ran $10K to produce a 5-song recording. Now 2500 plays of one of my songs on Spotify results in a check for 19 cents, and we can no longer sell CDs at performances, which is what funded each of my new recordings for years.

So if it would delight you to contribute to this effort, it would delight me. Please feel zero obligation to get involved with any of this craziness.
