Liam, the son of my best friend, was having a normal morning heading to work early Monday when his life changed in an instant. After hitting a patch of black ice, his truck spun out, rolled, and left him with several fractures on both sides of his pelvis, his sacrum, and a couple of vertebrae. He was rushed by ambulance to Tyndal hospital, where doctors discovered internal abdominal bleeding. Liam was then airlifted to Avera McKenna in Sioux Falls, where the bleeding was controlled and he began a series of surgeries to stabilize his injuries.
Liam has always been a quiet, humble person who is quick to help others but rarely asks for anything himself. He’s the kind of person who would rather shoulder his burdens alone than inconvenience anyone else. Now, he faces tremendous pain and a long road to recovery. He will be non-weightbearing for at least three months and will need extensive rehabilitation. Because the accident happened at the end of the insurance plan year, he will have to meet his out-of-pocket maximum for both 2025 and 2026, which is a significant financial burden. On top of that, since he only recently moved home, he doesn’t qualify for FMLA and will be without income during his recovery.
Funds raised will help cover Liam’s medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and living expenses while he heals. We all have stuff going on and bills to pay, but helping this young man out—even a little—will help him figuratively and literally get back on his feet. Your support means the world to Liam and everyone who cares about him.
