UPDATE on Levi. 3-12-25
Over the past 8 weeks Levi has been working hard at physical therapy. Working on improving his range of motion. His right leg is coming along nicely, watching him do single leg squats (assisted) is so incredible. His left leg, as you all know, is the bad one. He is sitting steady at about 97 degrees range of motion to his ledt knee. This definitely slows down his recovery. He had his follow up 10 days ago where he was given the okay to start putting pressure on that left leg. This was the BEST news he’s gotten since then he accident on Thanksgiving. So…
Today, Levi will have another surgery on that left leg. They will be going in laporscopicly, they will manipulate his knee past 90 and then go in and clean out all the scar tissue. If you all remember Levi also has a portion (about the size of a mans thumb) of bone missing from the inner part of his femur that goes into his knee. To correct this, they will be doing bone graft. They will take a portion of his bone from his left hip (illiac creat - top of hip) and placing that bone into the area of missing bone. After surgery he will have what’s called a CPM (continuous passive movement) it will move his leg for him and he has to be in this for 6-8 hours per day on top of physical therapy. We already know more surgeries will follow but unknown when, as it all depends on healing.
This has been one hell of a ride for us and we are pushing through all this mess. Levi has definitely noticed various effects from his TBI that are causing some barriers. We knew there could be hiccups, but we work on things one day at a time. You all have been nothing short of simply amazing. When I am out in the community, the outport of love and support is surreal. I appreciate all the thoughts, love and prayers you all continue to give us. I’ll provide an update after surgery today! God bless you all and have a blessed day!
Update: Levi came home on December 28th, meeting his goal of making it home in 2024! In addition to coming home earlier than expected, he has graduated from neuro & trama services. Now he will focus on further healing and getting stronger. He will be doing outpatient rehab 3 days a week for about 4 hours each time as well as following up with doctors to ensure a successful recovery.
Levi is making incredible strides in his recovery, but he and his family still need your support! If you can, please consider donating to help them on this journey of healing.
On Thanksgiving morning, November 28, 2024, Levi was involved in a head-on collision with a semi-truck. He was intubated and life-flighted from the scene to a trauma hospital in Lincoln and then transferred to a fixed-wing aircraft and flown to Omaha. He is suffering from severe compound fractures and internal injuries and has a very long road to recovery ahead of him. He is a very lucky young man to be alive.
Levi is a 17-year-old Senior at Johnson County Central and an avid wrestler. He has grown up in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with his parents, Dusty Boardman and Hope Mahoney. He is also blessed to have a large extended family. Levi started wrestling at the age of 4 and had just committed to wrestling at Southeast Community College. As adults, we can process all of this information, and maybe accept that change is inevitable, but for this stubborn boy, his life has been changed drastically. We would like to encourage everyone to be supportive as best that you can at this time. What matters the most, is that all parties involved in the accident are alive and will recover.
The family is going to need support financially to help during this long road of hospitalization and recovery. Anything you can do to help donate to Team Levi will be greatly appreciated. God has spared Levi’s life and for this we are thankful and blessed! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping out in any way that you can.
