On March 11th, everything changed for Leslie Hoskinson. Leslie was found unresponsive and rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with severe sepsis. She has faced lifelong health challenges, including significantly compromised lungs—living with one lung and only 30% function in the other—as well as serious heart complications. Her body has been fighting an unimaginable uphill battle from the very beginning. She spent the first six days on life support and, against the odds, was able to come off—but her condition remains extremely serious. Leslie has undergone several critical procedures, including a below-the-knee amputation due to complications from life-saving measures. Her most recent surgery took place this past Sunday, and there was hope she was beginning to stabilize. However, she has now developed pneumonia and has had to be placed back on life support. This has been devastating for her family, especially her 7-year-old daughter, Jaylyn Hoskinson, who needs her mom more than ever. My friend and colleague, Lanita, has been doing everything she can to support her sister during this time. She must travel over two hours each way to reach the hospital, and at this time she is not able to go due to severe financial strain. Being at Leslie’s side also prevents her from being able to work, which has created an overwhelming financial burden. Without support, Lanita and Jaylyn are unable to get to Leslie’s bedside. In addition to being present, Lanita is also trying to manage Leslie’s financial obligations while she is critically ill. There was a previous small fundraiser, but it only covered a portion of Leslie’s car payment, leaving ongoing bills and responsibilities still needing support during this crisis. The emotional weight of this situation is immense, and the financial strain continues to grow. Despite everything, Lanita continues to show up in every way she possibly can—because that is who she is.

Lanita is one of the most genuine, loving, and selfless people you could ever meet. She gives back to her community in meaningful ways, shows up for others without hesitation, and would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She faces life’s hardest challenges with strength, grace, and a smile, even when things are heavy. Now it is our turn to show up for her. We are asking for support to help ease the financial burden so Lanita and Jaylyn are able to travel to Leslie’s side. Funds will go toward: travel to and from the hospital, lodging and meals during hospital stays, care and support for 7-year-old Jaylyn, ongoing medical expenses, recovery needs, and Leslie’s essential financial obligations, as well as assistance with household and crisis-related financial needs.
