On January 7, 2021, I received a frantic call from my best friend, someone who is a sister to me. When I answered the phone, she was crying and trying to explain what happened the night before. Lesley is on the 1st floor of an apartment building with her beautiful daughter and amazing boyfriend and of course, the cutest puppy, Rex. A fire broke out above her apartment shortly before midnight. Thankfully, lesley’s father taught her well! As a Vietnam Veteran & 36 years as the Chief of the fire department, her training kicked in. They all got out safely!
Now what’s left is the aftermath. Her entire apartment became flooded with all the water that was poured above them. The ceiling began to fall, they were knee deep in water, and everything was ruined.
I went there yesterday to help her salvage the little bit of clothes she could, and I have to say, it was a very sad day. My poor friend who works so hard, suddenly had to forfeit all her and Gabe worked for. Their TVs, couches, beds, tables, shoes, rugs, appliances, computers, clothes...all flooded. Giavanna, her 13 year old daughter who attends Maria Regina High School, had to pack up her drenched backpack and bring it to a neighbors house to stay safe and dry. This is a devastating hit. Watching my best friend cry because she heard women and children crying for help, is not something anyone should experience.
If you have any amount to contribute to help Lesley get back on track, it would be appreciated more than you could ever imagine. I know in my heart as much as she hates pity, this would go so a long way in her heart and in mine. Her daughter is like another to daughter to me, and to know they lost everything, is beyond comprehension. I want to help them in any way I can because they deserve it.
Thank you for your time & generosity.
Love, Kim
