Support for Leo's Hospitalization
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Michaella, and Leo is mine and my boyfriend Mark's 23-month-old British Shorthair cat we adopted in October. On March 16th, I noticed Leo was jaundiced so the next morning I brought him to the vet. After $660 worth of bloodwork and X-rays, we found out that Leo's abdomen was filled with fluid. The vet suspects it is due to feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), which is "a severe, progressive, and usually fatal disease in ... cats caused by a mutated strain of feline coronavirus". Leo promptly got an abdominocentesis, from which the vet drained 35 mls of fluid. Leo will need to go for more treatment including fluids, medications, possible feeding tube insertion, and possible repeat abdominocentesis over the following days until he's stabilized enough to remain home. I was quoted $1000 for one day of hospitalization, $400 per day thereafter, and $1000 for feeding tube insertion. We will need to purchase 84 days' worth of special FIP medication outsourced from the US, which costs $55 for one small bottle containing 10 days' worth ($500-600 in total). This is a lot for both me and Mark to shoulder all of a sudden as we've been tight on money, especially since we ran into car issues that put us out a couple thousand dollars a few days prior to this. Additionally, I have to stay home from work to monitor Leo while he's recovering. It would mean the world to us if you could help by donating any amount or simply taking a few minutes to share this on any platform. FIP is curable with prompt treatment but can be fatal without it. I don't want to get to the point where I have to choose between money and my companion's life. Please help us give Leo a fighting chance. He is such a young, well-behaved, and sweet cat that doesn't deserve to go through this. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
I have been asked by several people for my e-Transfer so if you prefer donating that way please contact me for my email.
