My baby sister Leiloni Twinn who is only 19 years old was hit by a truck while riding as a passenger on a Lime bicycle in Seattle. The fire department found her underneath the vehicle, and she has suffered a brain bleed and remains unable to breathe on her own. Doctors had to insert a bolt into her head to monitor the bleeding and swelling, and she is currently on life support. Leiloni has multiple broken bones. Her leg required over eight hours of surgery to repair, and the bone was sticking out. The wound is still open and will need a skin graft. Her pelvis is also broken and will require surgery, and her whole arm is broken. She will also need repairs to her broken jaw, nose, and eye cranium. There have already been many complications, and we know we have a long way to go.
The nurses have been wonderful and by her side 24/7. Leiloni has responded to their sternum rubs, which gives us hope that she still has some brain function. However, we do not know how her brain will progress during her many upcoming surgeries. Leiloni was not the driver of the Lime scooter, and we agree that a poor decision was made with the unfamiliarity of the streets of Seattle. The driver is also in critical condition. Our family is devastated and has been by her side as much as the hospital will allow. We pray every day for her recovery and for God to save her life. Leiloni’s mom, dad, and four siblings are all very involved in her life and have been at the hospital every day, taking turns at her bedside and trying to stimulate her brain.
We do not know how to ask for help, but we are very much in need. The funds raised will help cover medical bills, transportation, lodging, lost wages, food, and other essential bills as we support Leiloni through her recovery. We ask that you keep praying and don’t stop. If you have any little bit to give, it will go so much farther than you know. Thank you for supporting Leiloni and our family.
