Raising funds for legal defense for a friend dealing with state harassment by their abuser

I had long time stalkers still write me in prison. Sometimes the attempts at control over a woman/trans persons body defies walls.

For my friend, it’s leapt over physical and mental harassment and into the criminal justice system. Like myself, my friend is an abolitionist who, despite the abuse, doesn’t want to see their abuser behind walls.

Their abuser is facing a criminal trial for assaulting them. He is accusing them of serious crimes they did not commit, and using the state as a weapon of harassment. Due to the gray area of the civil/criminal matter of these alllegations, they are not eligible for a public defender, and they aren’t able to receive help from other legal aid services.

Domestic violence resources are also limited, since they are technically the defendant in this unfair case. We are raising funds for them to pay a private attorney that has agreed to work with them at a discounted rate. However, the discounted rate for 1 court appearance is still more than they make monthly their job, with the minimum wage still being $7.25 in PA.

An $1,000 deposit is needed by Tuesday, May 28th, and more funds will be needed as they continue to deal with this situation and have to appear in court. Thank you for any and all contributions!
