UPDATE:

I want to thank everyone for their continuing support and prayers. I have to sadly say that Larry has passed last night. He was comfortable and pain free until his last breath. He is now reunited with his mom and looking over his family. RIP Larry.

ORIGINAL POST:

Larry Proulx, had a massive stroke the day before Thanksgiving 2018. Unfortunately, this left the entire left side of his body paralyzed. While he was able to groom himself, feed himself, talk, etc. he was sent to a nursing home to begin rehab in December. At first, he seemed to be doing well. However, things began to go down hill due to not receiving the proper care following the stroke. The nursing home gave him a fentanyl patch, which in turn overmedicated him preventing him from recovering like he should have. Additionally, they constantly left him alone, let him fall out of his wheel chair, neglected to feed him, stopped providing physical therapy, dropped him out of his lift, forgot to turn him, did not brush his teeth etc.

His condition drastically declined after these events, he became very weak, lost most of his muscle mass, was in an incredible amount of pain, and lost 70+ pounds in a matter of months. Eventually, his pain became so bad they made an appointment with a different doctor. When his wife, Donna Proulx, arrived after he was transported to the doctors office he was found unresponsive. After being rushed to the hospital, it was determined that he suffered from a second stroke on the other side of his brain. Additionally, the hospital uncovered bed sores that are so severe that they will not be able to even heal. Doctors were unable to tell us what caused the second stroke, but it is speculated it may be due to the poor care he received. Unfortunately, doctors informed my Aunt that after having two massive strokes and the incredible amount of neglect he suffered he will never be able to recover from this. He currently is completely paralyzed, other than being able to open his eyes. Donna also believes he can still hear.

During this tragic time, Donna has been working hard entirely on her own to care for her husband, pay medical bills, maintain the family home, and make ends meet. Unfortunately, due to the worsened conditions of Larry’s health she has now been unable to continue working and paying bills. If Larry is to return home in the future, she will be required to provide in home care for him.

Larry and Donna have been married for 19 years. Between the two of them they have 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and a great grandchild. Before his strokes, Larry loved the outdoors; he was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed time by the lake, and loved listening to the Beatles. Larry is a kind and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, and uncle. He and Donna deserve all the love and support they can get during this unimaginably difficult time. That is why we are so grateful for any amount what so ever, no matter how small. Every dollar counts to help Donna and Larry through this. If you cannot donate, we appreciate any prayers as well.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love and support
