We are Uptown Workers Union, the unionized staff of Uptown People's Law Center.

On October 3rd, four of our union members were informed by management that they are being laid off without severance. Their last day is October 17th. This puts our four union members in a state of significant financial insecurity. We need your support to help cushion the impact!

With this campaign, we are hoping to raise some severance money for our four employees while our union continues to bargain over the validity and effects of these layoffs. Please support our Uptown Workers Union comrades! All support is deeply appreciated.

Please Note: We are not naming the four union members who have been laid off in order to protect their privacy while they apply for new jobs. All proceeds from this campaign will be split evenly amongst the four union members, and will go towards their living expenses as they are now suddenly without an income.

For those who aren’t familiar with Uptown People’s Law Center, we are a community law firm in Uptown, Chicago. We fight to keep tenants housed, to get our clients the Social Security benefits they need, and use litigation to challenge the horrific, inhumane conditions of prisons throughout Illinois. UPLC’s fight is important work that needs support. Our amazing union comrades are a vital part of this work. We appreciate any support you are able to give them during this uncertain time.
