My dear friend and fellow 2nd grade teacher, Kym Hurley, has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. The good news is that the prognosis looks good. The bad news is, the road to recovery is going to be extremely tough.
Kym will be receiving a double mastectomy on June 16th and will be bedridden for the next four to six weeks. She will not have the ability to independently change her clothes, let alone prepare meals for her two elementary school aged children.
For anyone that is a teacher or knows a teacher, we do not get paid over the summer. Normally, Kym spends her summers tutoring any free hour there is to make ends meet, but working to receive any extra income this summer will not be physically possible. There is never a good time to get cancer, however, this is certainly the worst possible time.
Kym has adopted two beautiful children on her own, Blake (11) and Zora (9). Your generous donation will be put towards ordering Peapod groceries, babysitters to drive the kids to swim meets and prepare meals, and ensure that life can remain as normal as possible for them.
If you do not know Kym personally, she is a fantastic educator and has been a great mentor to me at Somerset Elementary. Please like and share this post, but more importantly... if possible, please open up your wallet and do one supremely generous act of kindness. Any amount will make a difference, and be greatly appreciated.
