I'm a Systems Administrator who loves games, Legos, and working out. Unfortunately, on April 14th, I was getting ready for bed when I experienced the worst pain I have ever felt, and it was in my chest. My wife immediately called 911, and they whisked me off to the hospital. At least that's what I'm told because I don't remember much of anything until I woke up in the hospital 3 days later, strapped to the hospital bed with a tube down my throat. Turns out I had an Aortic Dissection where a tear opened in my aorta. I was put through an 11-hour surgery where a vein from my leg was used as a graft to repair one of my arteries, then they had to use an artificial root to repair another place on my heart. I stayed in the hospital for 12 days before being released home.
Recovery was going well until 5-6 weeks out, I started to feel more chest pain. I went to the ER hoping it would just be nothing serious, but after several major tests, I was told that the graft was leaking and they would need to do another open-heart surgery to repair the graft. Another 11 days in the hospital later, I was released but starting recovery over from square one.
The timing of the second surgery forced my wife, who has been my amazing caregiver, to quit her job. Between that and being forced onto SDI, it has made it impossible to make ends meet. We have had to live on credit cards, which is tanking my credit and just making life more difficult.
I would really appreciate any help that people can give, but would ask that nobody give anything more than they can comfortably afford. Funds will go to paying medical bills and paying down credit card balances which have skyrocketed since the first surgery.
