Kyle Gilbert, Zulema’s friend, was seriously injured after going down after the wire in the 8th race on Tuesday night, October 6, 2026, at Mountaineer Racetrack. Julia, Kyle’s wife, shared that Kyle suffered severe cervical spine fractures, thoracic spine fractures, and sternum fractures. He also has a hematoma pressing against his spinal cord, which is why he initially could not feel his legs. Kyle was first taken to East Liverpool Hospital and then transferred to UPMC Presbyterian Trauma Center in Pittsburgh. His fractures are unstable, doctors are evaluating possible spinal cord damage with an MRI, and surgery is planned to help stabilize the fractures.
