Support for Kurt's Family During Crisis
Donation protected
Kurt underwent open heart surgery on the 24th of June at Gundersen Hospital in Lacrosse. Since then, he has had a number of complications that have resulted in him being transferred to Abbot Northwestern Heart Hospital in Minneapolis. His wife Sarah, and kids are temporarily displaced while staying in Minneapolis and have incurred living costs with the dislocation along with concerns of keeping up with the bills at home. Sarah was able to take unpaid leave from work while staying in Minneapolis with him. We are hoping to raise some support from our community of family and friends so the family can have a little less stress when trying to eat and book airbnbs/hotels over the next few weeks.
Kurt is currently intubated under sedation in the Cardiac ICU and is receiving help from an Impella heart pump as well as CRRT therapy for his kidneys. The prognosis is difficult to evaluate at this time according to the doctors. In the best case scenario, we are able to extubate and wake him up next week, but even then it is looking like it will be a few weeks in the hospital. The situation is currently very serious, but we are confident in the Abbott Medical team and have been very happy with the care he has received here thus far.
If you feel so inclined, the family would appreciate any help you are willing or able to give in this time.
