On Memorial Day, May 25, 2026, at approximately 1:25 p.m. a devastating head-on collision occurred on US Highway 95 near milepost 469 in Sagle, Idaho. An 18-year-old driver and his 48-year-old passenger, both from Sandpoint, were traveling southbound in a red 2011 Buick LaCrosse when their vehicle crossed the center line and struck a northbound white 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck head-on. Tragically, both occupants of the Buick lost their lives at the scene.
The two occupants of the Dodge Ram pickup, 65-year-old Kurt Hoopes and 59-year-old Franny Hoopes from Sandpoint were both extensively injured and transported to the local hospital (one by ground ambulance and one by air ambulance). This accident completely changed their lives in the blink of an eye.
Kurt and Franny are now facing multiple life-threatening injuries that will require several surgeries and a long, difficult road to recovery. Anyone who knows Kurt and Franny knows they are two of the most loving, kind, and selfless people you could ever meet. They would do anything for anyone and have spent their lives helping and caring for others. They recently retired and moved to Sandpoint, a place where so much love and kindness from this incredible community is often given and felt.
As they begin this journey toward healing, they will need all the emotional, physical, and financial support possible. We are raising funds to help with mounting medical bills, rehabilitation and recovery costs, transportation to and from medical appointments, lost wages during recovery, and other unforeseen expenses resulting from this sudden and life-changing accident.
