Our dear friends, the Harvey family, are facing a nightmare that no parents should ever have to endure. Nick and Brittany Harvey’s son, Kohen (affectionately known as Koko), suffered a terrible bike accident when his bike malfunctioned going down a hill causing him to crash. The crash left Kohen with a shattered left kidney (Grade 5 laceration) and other, associated internal injuries. These injuries then led to challenges of fluid storing in his lungs to which both issues require critical procedures to save his life. While Kohen is making significant steps toward recovery, the road ahead is long and uncertain. He is at risk of losing most, if not all, function in one of his kidneys and has already undergone several procedures to stop internal bleeding, drain excessive fluids, and repair vital organs. For now, Kohen is working on walking and taking steps on his own, but will need to use a wheelchair and go through extensive physical therapy to regain his strength. For those of you that know Kohen, he's in every sport there is which makes this not only a physical battle, but mental as well. Doctors estimate it could take anywhere from a few months up to a year for him to fully recover.
This tragedy has deeply affected the entire Harvey family. Brittany, a self-employed mental health therapist, has not been able to work, and Nick, a veteran and Deputy for Douglas County, has missed many days of work to care for Kohen and their five-year-old daughter, Kovelyn. As medical bills begin to exceed their out-of-pocket limits, the financial strain is growing. Nick is also a coach for our local football program and is always there to help our kids stay on the right path. The Harvey's are the kindest, most caring people in our community—always ready to help others in need. Now, it’s our turn to support them.
Please keep the Harvey family in your prayers during this unimaginable time. If you are able, please consider donating to help ease their financial burden so they can focus on Kohen’s recovery and getting their lives back to some sense of normalcy. Our community is truly blessed to have them, and together, we can provide comfort and hope in this time of pain and uncertainty.
