On December 23rd I came across a kitten in my garage screaming in pain. Come to find out she got her front left paw caught in a steel jaw trap- which is illegal to use in residential neighborhoods.

After 45 minutes of trying to catch her, and her tearing up my hand, I managed to get her to the ER vet. Lots of pain meds, xrays, and $700 later, we find her radius and ulna were snapped completely out of their growth plates. They estimated her to be about 5 months of age. The vet recommended amputation, as resetting the bones had a slim chance of being successful (and would also be an extremely long and painful process for this kitten that’s gone through so much trauma already). Since then, I’ve had 2 other opinions from vets that also advised amputating.

The ER vet told me they could amputate her leg that day (12/23)…. For $9K…. Then they recommended another vet that could see her & amputate on Christmas Eve for $1.7-$2K. I do not have those sorts of funds… especially after the $700 ER vet bill.

I reached out to Furry Friends Animal Aid, and they recommended a vet to me that could do the amputation at a more reasonable price. The quote for the amputation is $400. I’ve already submitted a $50 deposit. I will also be getting her spayed, since I figure it’s best to just get it all over with at once.

Her amputation is scheduled for January 6th.

I wouldn’t be asking for funds unless I really needed them. I’m ashamed to say I maxed my credit card out with that ER bill (wasn’t expecting something like this to occur so close to Christmas).

I couldn’t just leave this kitten to die. I called the police, they told me there’s nothing they can do. So now, because of evil human being, I’m left with a traumatized kitten and a hefty bill.

If you could spare anything, it would mean a lot. I want nothing but the best for this baby.
