Please read the letter below from Kirk's family.
Dear Friends and Family,
Please take a moment to read about our Dad, Kirk Edmonds and the current battle we are facing.
Back in 2008, at the young age of 45 years, our dad had to undergo open heart surgery due to two massive heart attacks. Ten years later, in 2016, he suffered a stroke on the right side of his brain affecting mobility on the left of his body. Although it took a lot of time, and after suffering multiple scary epileptic episodes, our dad battled through it all with country music and a smile on his face.
On 27th May 2023, Dad suffered another heart attack, was rushed to the hospital and had to be resuscitated. Due to breathing problems, he was put on a ventilator and on the 28th of May, we were advised to put a stent in his heart post the angiography and angioplasty.
At 8 pm on the 28th of May, the doctors stopped the sedation medication and we were informed he would be stable in 24 hours. However, they noticed he wasn’t responsive on his right side. On the 29th of May, the CT scan showed damage on the left side of his brain and we were informed that he had also suffered a stroke.
He was given all the injections necessary to stop any further swelling and was gradually taken off the ventilator as he began breathing on his own. However, he developed a fever during this time and was quickly put back on the ventilator.
Currently, our dad is still in the ICU and fighting with all his might. His fever has subsided, thankfully and as per the doctors, doesn’t need support from the ventilator but his mobility has drastically reduced. We have already exhausted Dad’s insurance and the bill is increasing daily. Although pops is still critical, once he gets discharged, the road to recovery will be an arduous and financially tough one for us as we will most likely need to have a similar hospital set-up with a ventilator and a nurse at home for at least a year.
He is being cared for by his loving wife, Bernadette Shamoon and 3 children– Andrew, Sandra and Lynda, however, we need your help to ensure our dad gets all the medical care he needs.
About Kirk
A loving father of 3 and a devoted husband, Kirk Edmonds (pops) has always been the most hardworking and humble family man you’ll ever meet. He has worked in the unforgiving hospitality industry for over 30 years but due to his health conditions had to retire a lot earlier than he would have liked to. Despite this, he has always provided for us in every way that he could.
Against all odds, our dad has been married to our mum, Bernadette for 34 years and are true soul mates. Their relationship truly defines what it means to stand by someone in sickness and in health, good times and bad. Post dad’s first stroke, it was Mum who nursed him back to life– teaching him how to walk again, injuring herself to save him during his epileptic episodes and making that crooked smile all the more straighter, always standing by him. Pops could even ride a bike just before our current situation.
The three of us have devoted everything to family and we always will. Dad has been a pillar of strength and support in our lives in more ways than one can fathom and it's our turn to do everything we can to get him all the help he needs.
We know that raising this money is a huge task but we are willing to do whatever it takes to bring him back home and ensure there is no risk to the condition of his life post this. If you're able to donate, no matter how big or small, it will mean the world to us. If you're unable to donate, please share our cause with others. A small prayer would also do wonders! Any money raised that is not used for this cause will be donated to our local orphanage at St. Patricks Church.
Thank you for making it this far. Pops has always been a fighter who loves life and with your help, we know he will win this battle again!
