On February 20th, I received a text no parent ever wants to get. I had just landed in Florida when my oldest son messaged me, asking why King was at the hospital. My heart dropped. I called immediately and learned that while ziplining in our backyard, a tree had fallen and struck King. He was rushed in for emergency imaging, which revealed multiple fractures, internal swelling, and a hematoma. King was airlifted to Riley Hospital for urgent care. I scrambled to find the fastest flight home and made it to Riley just after midnight, arriving as he came out of a scope procedure. Seeing him in the PICU was incredibly difficult, but I was just so grateful to be with him. King is currently stable, and we are so thankful for that. However, his injuries are serious: a fractured pelvis in multiple areas, a partially collapsed lung with air around both lungs, lumbar spinal injuries at L1 and L2, a kidney laceration, an NG tube and oxygen support, lymphatic fluid leakage, bruising on his kidney and several more. He will be in a wheel chair for atleast 6 weeks, and then slowly relearn how to walk. We are still waiting on additional evaluations from specialists to determine the full extent of his injuries and the long road ahead. Recovery will take time, medical support, and rehabilitation. During this time, I will be by his side day and night. And his dad is taking time off work to help with him. We are asking for help to cover medical expenses, travel, time off work, and ongoing recovery needs. Most importantly, thank you for your prayers, support, and love. King is strong. He is stable. And we are taking this one step at a time.
