The following is a summary that has been rewritten for me. I can be a bit wordy at times so I decided to have a summary made. Thank you for your time and support.
Brandon has been living in Japan for almost a decade now, but he never expected this. He had been teaching English at a local junior high school in Hiroshima, but in May of 2022 he started to feel ill. He began experiencing breathlessness, pain, swollen legs, and blood in his urine. After going to the doctor and getting a CT scan, it was confirmed that he had a large, cancerous tumor in his right kidney. He was determined to keep working as long as he could in order to make ends meet and to support himself, but eventually he was forced to take medical leave in November of 2022.
He had bought a kominka – old style Japanese house -- in the countryside with the intention of moving there, but it wasn't ready yet. The house was still cold and lacked running water, a toilet, sink, shower, or bathtub, but that wasn't the worst part. He knew that he needed to find a way to pay for his medical expenses and lost wages due to taking medical leave. He applied for medical benefits, but it is taking a long time to be approved and receive anything. In the meantime, he is struggling with the stress to make ends meet and the bills are piling up. He doesn’t know how long he will need to be on medical leave before he can recover, but there is a limit to his working contract, residency, and insurance benefits, as he is still considered a temporary resident and is not married to a local.
